THE STORY OF TALK IT OUT
Neil Avery - Songwriter
After speaking with my friend in the cafe, I came home, picked up the guitar and wrote this song, scribbled a few words down and excitedly sent a rough demo to Nigel.
The song is very catchy with a strong vocal chorus… simple with a powerful easy to understand message ...Talk It Out ... Ride It Out, we are with you, you are not alone… it's ok.
I plucked up the courage to play it to my friend ..... I didn’t tell her initially about how it came about but she loved it which was a huge relief… She really felt the message and lyrics would resonate across the board with other people ... it’s not complicated… Behind the lead vocal, the underlying message is ... we are with you, we are together, you are not alone …
Steve Loft - Founder of Men, Music and Mental Health
Just over a year ago a group of (mainly) men met for the first time in a vinyl record cafe in Hoxton with a common bond of their love of music. And so Men, Music and Mental Health was formed including performers, fans, manager/promoter and video producers.
I created the group based upon a conversation I had with Alan the owner of the cafe (Matters of Vinyl Importance) in Hoxton. Alan said he often felt more like a therapist than a shop owner and that’s where the idea grew. Music can play such a powerful part in our lives and also impacts us in psychologically in the most powerful ways.
Neil Avery was one of the founders of our group and in one of the groups shared his song “Talk It Out”.
Jon Salmon - Co-founder Byte Entertainment
The Men, Music and Mental Health group is supported by Time to Change and as a Champion, I had received an email about the group from the London Coordinator at the time Chrystalla.
In one of the meeting's Neil played the track "Talk It Out" and told us about the challenges he was having about getting the important message of the song heard. I knew that I had to help and a few months later we had a meeting with Moore Kingston Smith and their charities board who agreed to support the making of the music video.
